Frequently asked questions

Things people actually ask

Am I eligible for semaglutide?

Eligibility is based on BMI and clinical history. Adults with BMI 30 or higher, or 27 or higher with a weight-related comorbidity such as hypertension, dyslipidaemia or type 2 diabetes, may be candidates. History of medullary thyroid cancer, MEN-2 or pancreatitis are exclusions. The final decision is made by Ronal Perdomo Lugo, APRN, FNP-C after consultation and labwork.

What are the most common side effects?

Most patients experience some gastrointestinal effects during dose escalation, especially nausea, reduced appetite, constipation or diarrhoea. These are usually mild and improve over weeks. Less common but more serious risks include pancreatitis, gallbladder issues and severe dehydration. We review every patient's red-flag symptoms in detail before starting.

How is this different from just dieting and exercising?

Diet and exercise are the foundation of any weight-management plan and remain so during semaglutide therapy. The medication does not replace lifestyle work; it supports adherence by reducing appetite signals and food preoccupation in patients for whom willpower-based approaches have repeatedly failed. Without nutritional coaching and movement, results are inferior and harder to sustain.
