What it does for you

Results & duration

When you see it, how long it lasts

Hydration and shape refinement are visible immediately, but the true final result settles between two and four weeks once swelling resolves and the gel integrates into the tissue. HA lip fillers typically last 6 to 12 months depending on the specific gel, the area, and individual metabolism. Touch-ups are scheduled to maintain the refined silhouette rather than to keep adding volume.

Frequently asked questions

Things people actually ask

Will my lip fillers look natural?

Yes — that is the entire premise of our lip approach. Most first sessions use 1mL or less, distributed conservatively for hydration and proportion. We deliberately preserve the natural anatomy of the philtrum, Cupid's bow, and vermillion border. The result should read as healthy, refreshed lips, not as a treatment.

How long do lip fillers last?

Hyaluronic acid lip fillers last between 6 and 12 months depending on the specific HA gel used, the volume injected, the area treated, and individual metabolism. Lips are a high-mobility area, which can shorten duration in some patients. Maintenance sessions are scheduled at the point where definition begins to soften, not when volume disappears.

Does it hurt?

Lips are sensitive, so we use a topical anesthetic cream for 15 to 20 minutes prior, and most modern HA gels contain lidocaine for in-procedure comfort. Patients usually describe a brief pressure or pinch rather than sharp pain. Cold compresses also help. The procedure is well tolerated by the large majority of patients.

How much swelling should I expect?

Some swelling is normal for two to five days. Lips usually look their fullest the day after the procedure, then settle gradually. The true final result is visible at around two to four weeks. We recommend planning lip filler at least two weeks before any major event so the result can settle naturally.

Can lip fillers be reversed?

Yes. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved using hyaluronidase, an enzyme injected into the area. We always keep hyaluronidase available at our Miami clinic. Reversal is reserved for medical indications or for cases where the patient is genuinely dissatisfied with the result; we always start with the most conservative option.

Why do you recommend a 1mL session?

One millilitre is enough to refine hydration, contour, and proportion in most first sessions without overstretching the tissue. Building the lips slowly across one or two sessions protects the natural shape and gives the body time to adapt. Patients who want more refinement after two weeks can complete the result with a small top-up rather than overfilling on day one.

Are lip fillers safe?

Hyaluronic acid lip fillers have a long safety track record when administered by a trained physician. The most important safety factors are anatomical knowledge, conservative dosing, sterile technique, and immediate access to hyaluronidase for the rare vascular complication. All sessions at Real Aesthetic are supervised by Ronal Perdomo Lugo, APRN, FNP-C.
